Our produce
Café Below offers home-cooking in the heart of the City, with a menu that changes according to the seasons. The only way we can do this is by relying on a network of fantastic producers who provide us with top quality produce, fresh from the farm.
In particular, we offer up proper bacon, sausages, cheese, cream and cider from Herefordshire (Bill’s adopted county) all of which is second to none.
Neal's Yard Creamery
We get our Perroche and Ragstone goats' cheese from this small dairy near Dorstone in Herefordshire, which was originally part of the same company as Neal's Yard Dairy. www.nealsyardcreamery.co.uk
Mr Tudge
Our smoked bacon, ham and sausages come courtesy of Mr Tudge, his family and his free-range Berkshire rare breed pigs, all of whom live near Ludlow. www.tudge-meats.co.uk
Dunkertons
Our cider and perry are from Dunkertons, who have made organic cider and perry to Soil Association standards since 1988. Based in Pembridge, a beautiful black and white village near Leominster, Dunkertons use a traditional press and mill circa 1930. www.dunkertons.co.uk
Chegworth Valley
Chegworth Farm in Kent started life selling apples to supermarkets, but its owners soon became disillusioned by the focus on profit rather than quality. Fortunately for us, they turned to juice making. The juices are aromatic, fresh, and don’t contain any rubbish. www.chegworthvalley.com
Label Anglais chicken
Label Anglais chickens are British breeds (Red Cornish and White Rock) and grow slowly, thus developing a good texture and fuller flavour. They’re free-range too. www.sjfrederick.co.uk
Illy
Not only do Illy consistently top the table in blind tastings, but they have been buying coffee directly from growers at well above average coffee prices (for well above average coffee) for a long time before the concept of Fairtrade was invented. www.illy.com
Ethical take-away
We are slowly but surely converting all our take-away containers to eco-friendly lines.
